PTCI Course Descriptions
Basic Level Courses
Vision and Courage
Walking the spiritual
path requires that we see a vision for our lives and move toward that vision
with purpose and courage. This course provides a conceptual framework
from the readings of Edgar Cayce and the work of Rudolf Steiner for working
with “visioning” in our lives. The course then draws upon
non-intellectual experiential modalities including synchronicity exercises
with the Zen tarot cards, energy constellations, active meditations, and mandala
drawing to access insights, create the space in our daily lives, and open
our hearts to the courage needed to live our Ideals. Participants experiment
with learning how to say “no” to those energies that stand in
the way of their Ideals, so they can say “yes” to their genuine
soul yearnings and purpose.
Healing the Courageous Heart
No one can protect themselves
or another from experiencing a broken or wounded heart. But we do have
control over whether or not our hearts become bitter. This course assists
the participants to gently and lovingly confront the vulnerability and woundedness
of our hearts. Through experiential exercises, students learn to be
compassionate toward themselves so they can begin to heal those tender places
in their hearts and find the gifts embedded in that woundedness. Self-exploration
through inquiry, synchronicity exercises with the Zen tarot cards, energy
constellations, active meditations, and mandala drawing modalities are used
to help students access the latent strength in the courageous and open heart.
The Three Paths to Enlightenment
Ancient traditions of
spiritual development point to three distinct pathways to enlightenment.
Each of them is addressed in the Cayce readings and this course will explore
which one best fits your needs.
First is the Path of Renunciation – the challenge to purify our
attitudes, emotions, and body – that is, to purge ourselves of obstacles. The Path of Renunciation involves releasing things that
no longer serve us. It is a deep letting go of energy patterns that
we may have experienced for many years.
Second is the Path of Perfection – awakening to our talents and
state of wholeness that already exists, without any efforting on our own part.
This pathway affirms that we are already perfect! It says that we each
have a unique gift that we came into the world to share – and yet, we
must recognize it and claim it in order to fully develop it. By using
our gifts, we help bring joy and healing to others and to ourselves.
Third, and usually depicted as the most difficult
and yet most direct – is the Path of the Poison Pill, also known
as the Path of Transformation. This approach teaches us to face
the shadow side (i.e., “the poison pill”) of our attitudes, emotions,
and physical drives. Working with the shadow side we learn to transform
it and use that energy to have a greater understanding of our journeys through
life.
Ultimately we can all find help from each of the three paths. However,
there is likely to be one to which a person gravitates most naturally.
This course will help you identify your current primary path and how you how
to use the ideas from the other two paths to support you on your journey,
especially when you feel “stuck” and not making progress with
your familiar pathway. The course is an opportunity to explore in
an experiential way the features of the three paths, and to see what they
offer in the way of guidance in daily life and our personal healing process.
It will lead you to key insights about yourself and help you gain a greater
understanding of other people and how they grow and heal.
Men’s
Retreat
This course is for men
who want to join with other men to explore some of the universal challenges
they face on the quest to be whole. In an environment of support and
confidentiality, we will examine how to nurture our own creative imagination
about what it means to be men, living with courage and clarity in a confusing
world. The workshop course for the three residential days will include
daily meditations, dyad exercises, group explorations
of the issues raised by the book Finding Meaning in the Second Half of
Life: How to Finally, Really Grow Up, by Jungian therapist James Hollis.
We may also do some mandala work, as well as some group time in nature (weather
permitting). We will support each other to reconnect with the source
of our energy and power as men, and we will open ourselves to what it means
to have a more healthy relationship with our own courageous strength to meet
the unknown aspects of our future.
Women’s Retreat: Women as Peacebuilders
Peace is not just the
absence of war. Peace is an attitude, a work in progress, an Ideal of
community and oneness that is constantly being worked toward. As we
make peace within ourselves, we can make peace without and change the world.
This retreat is a time to look at the ways in which we allow conditions in
ourselves to continue to create discord and how we can consciously move with
purpose toward incorporating concrete steps in our lives to build peace within
– and take that understanding of peace to our families, our communities,
and the world.
Wellness Week
Enjoy a week of nurturing
yourself on all levels! This week is devoted to healing and integrating
your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. Participants
will learn how physical health is deeply connected with mental, emotional
and spiritual health and maintenance. Cayce emphasized setting an Ideal
and then aligning attitudes, emotions, and physical activities with that Ideal
as the path to attaining and maintaining health on all levels. While
you enjoy and benefit from the advice and support of the massage-therapy department,
we will help you focus on re-committing to an Ideal and tuning up attitudes,
emotions, and daily activities to manifest a purposeful and productive life.
Intermediate Level Courses
Ideals,
Synchronicity, and Guidance
Once we have set an
Ideal, the universe responds and moves forward to support, encourage and embrace
us as we incorporate our Ideal into our daily lives. In this course
we look very specifically at how synchronicity and guidance play a part in
our daily lives to challenge us to commit more deeply to our Ideals.
The “active” and “receptive” models of synchronicity
are discussed and experienced through the modalities of the Zen tarot cards,
active meditations, energy constellations, and mandala drawing. Participants
are encouraged to practice using their intuition and guidance to support each
other’s journey and experiences in the course.
Transforming
Your Inner Child
True “innocence”
is about the integration of the inner child and the mature adult. It
is about “re-membering” all of who we
are. This course assists the participants to bridge the mental and emotional
gaps between the openhearted and vulnerable child and the wise and experienced
adult so that we can simultaneously experience the wonder of the moment and
the purposefulness of our daily lives. Exercises include divination
tools such as the tarot, active meditations, energy constellations, and drawing
experiences. Participants are encouraged to practice using their intuition
and guidance to support each other’s journey and experiences in the
course.
